FOUR BASIC FLIGHT PROCEDURES CLIMBS MIXTURE - Full Rich Take-off or richen half the distance. POWER - Full Power or Climb Power setting. PITCH - Adjust to climb attitude small adjustments for airspeed. RUDDER - Apply right rudder for P-factor. TRIM - Adjust to remove control pressures.
LEVEL - OFF FROM CLIMB STRAIGHT & LEVEL PITCH - Adjust to level pitch attitude smoothly. TRIM - Nose down to remove control pressures. POWER - Adjust to cruise power setting after aircraft accelerates. TRIM - Adjust to remove all control pressures. MIXTURE - Lean till RPM drops, richen till RPM returns, then richen 1/4".
DESCENTS MIXTURE - Full Rich for landing or richen half the distance. POWER - Reduce power to establish desired rate of descent. PITCH - Adjust to descent attitude. TRIM - Adjust to remove control pressures and set desired descent airspeed.
LEVEL - OFF FROM DESCENT PITCH - Adjust to level pitch attitude smoothly. POWER - Adjust to desired setting immediately. TRIM - Adjust to remove control pressures. MIXTURE - Lean till RPM drops, richen till RPM returns, then richen 1/4".
TURNS SCAN - For a left turn, scan from right to left, raise left wing slightly. RUDDER - Apply light left rudder, then left aileron to desired bank angle, use rudder and aileron to maintain coordination. Roll out of turn with right rudder and aileron to wings level attitude. CLIMBING & DESCENDING TURNS - Bank no more than 15 degrees.
Note: At density altitudes greater than 5000 ft. set the mixture for take-offs and landings. Loss of engine power and flooding could result.
